The authors analysed 90 teeth from smokers, nonsmokers (both with peridontal disease) and a control (without disease) for elements linked to disease (Pb, As, Cd). Good RMSEP were obtained for all elements (referenced to ICP). The Temperature and Electron Density of the LIBS plasma were checked to ensure plasma was optically thin.
