Detection limits for Cu and Pb in soil were improved using 0.7T magnetic field from fixed magnets 2cm apart. Soil samples were spiked with different concentrations of Pb and Cu and then pressed into pellets for analysis. The presence of the magnetic field enhances the peaks through plasma confinement, leading to increases in plasma temperature (and hence emission). There is similarly an increase in electron density.
