This work aims to assist in the rapid determination of platinum group metals in recycled catalytic converters. Samples extracted from slurry were ground and pressed into pellets for analysis. The aim of this work was to establish concentration ranges over which good calibration performance might be expected - hence lower LODs would be expected if this had been the aim. |
Element | Detection Limit (ppm) | Wavelength (nm) | Other Wavelengths (nm) | Calibration Method | Calibration Range (ppm) | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Rh | 9.0000 (Lowest Detected Concentration) | 369.2400 | N/A | Univariate | 4.0000-7910.0000 | Worst RSD were greater than 5%, but fall to 2.65% for lower concentrations. Acceptable performance of 3 orders of magnitude of concentration. |
Pd | 127.0000 (Lowest Detected Concentration) | 340.4600 | 342.12, 343.34, 344.14, 346.07nm | Univariate | 127.0000-54380.0000 | RSD<2% and R>0.908 over 3 orders of magnitude concentration. |
Pt | 20.0000 (Lowest Detected Concentration) | 270.2400 | 270.59nm, 271.90nm, 273.39nm | Univariate | 20.0000-42170.0000 | Calibration curve was constructed using the average intensity across the 270.24, 270.59, 271.90 and 273.39nm lines. Calibration RSD<3% and R^2=0.9527 achieved across 4 orders of magnitude concentration range. |
